By transcending spatial boundaries, it aims to share the fresh social imagination of contemporary young Asian artists with the public.
Moving on Asia—Post-Socially Engaged Art: Moving Images of Asian Digital Natives
Digital Natives: Speaking to Society Through a New Artistic Vocabulary
This exhibition is a project that explores new trends in socially engaged public art within contemporary Asian moving images. The "digital native" generation addresses today’s social realities through technical approaches and thematic perspectives that are distinctly different from previous generations.
As the rapid advancement of digital technology blurs the boundaries between creativity and expression, advanced computing allows for the instantaneous visualization of the imaginary. Consequently, the line between reality and virtuality dissolves, and the ambiguous realm of imagination between truth and fiction expands to become the foundation of a new artistic vocabulary. Like the "zoom" function on a digital device, these artists interpret the world through their own subjective interfaces, routinely producing multi-layered, inductive "Histories" rather than a single, deductive "History."
While past socially engaged artists preferred universal or figurative expressions for public accessibility, today's digital generation attempts social intervention through sophisticated visual aesthetics based on their proficiency in AI, Unreal Engine, and Unity. Amidst contemporary issues such as national egoism, environmental destruction, and ideological conflict, this exhibition serves as a platform to illuminate the new aesthetic trends and creative possibilities presented by these artists through over 20 diverse moving image works.
