<사막들>, 2024

<사막들>은 시청각 언어의 새로운 가능성을 제시했던 에드가 바레즈의 《Déserts》에서 영감을 받은 카를로스 카사스의 진행 중인 프로젝트이다. 이러한 유산을 확장하여, 카사스는 ‘시각적 사운드(visual sound)’에 대한 연구를 전개하며, 이미지와 오디오 간의 새로운 관계를 실험하는 동시에 아카이브 자료를 활용하는 혁신적인 방식을 모색한다. 이 프로젝트는 환경적 생물 분해와 사막화를 탐구하는 한편, 고독과 신비에 의해 형성되는 내면적이고 개인적인 심리적 풍경을 함께 탐색한다. 카사스는 이미지들이 서로 교차하고 공명하는 체계를 구축함으로써, 시간, 기억, 지각을 가로지르며 숨겨진 연결과 새로운 의미가 드러나도록 한다.

Deserts, 2024

Deserts is an ongoing project by Carlos Casas inspired by Edgar Varèse Déserts, an innovative work that envisioned new possibilities for audiovisual language. Expanding on this legacy, Casas develops his research into “visual sound,” experimenting with new relationships between image and audio as well as innovative ways of working with archival material. The project explores both environmental biodegradation and desertification together with inner, personal psychological landscapes shaped by solitude and mystery. Casas creates a system where images intersect and resonate, allowing hidden connections and new meanings to emerge across time, memory, and perception.
