AI(Pillart AI)
(France)
Based in Bayonne, Pillart AI is a visual creator and filmmaker who constructs innovative cinematic storytelling by dissolving the boundaries between audio, video, visual art, and AI. Over more than 25 years working as a cameraman and video producer for French national television, he has cultivated a depth of insight and technical expertise that form the solid foundation of his image-based experimentation within the digital frontier.
Through an organic synthesis of art and technology, he explores the expanded possibilities of cinema, constructing imagined futures grounded in a distinctive vintage aesthetic. Spanning science fiction, retrofuturism, cybernetic cities, post-nature, civilizational landscapes, and alternative world building, Pillart AI’s practice traverses a wide conceptual spectrum. By combining surreal variations with historical imagery and ruinous landscapes, he creates visual experiences that are both unfamiliar and captivating.
Pillart AI holds an Advanced Technical Diploma (BTS) in audiovisual production. His work has been selected for the Venice BAIFF AI Film Festival (Italy, 2025) and the Wrong Biennale (Portugal, 2025), and exhibited at the Open Gallery (Buenos Aires, Argentina, 2025). More recently, he has presented three works at the Kursaal AI Film Festival (San Sebastián, Spain, 2026), gaining international recognition, and was selected as a creative partner of Dreamina in 2026.
Venice Underground, 2025
Venice Underground is a storytelling video reconstructed by combining historical records of the city of Venice with the artist’s meticulous imagination. Between the radiant surface landscape of Venice and the underwater ruins beneath, which are slowly collapsing under the pressure of mass tourism and greedy human desire, the work captures a moment of tension formed by the collision of two worlds.
Inspired by the flamboyant visual energy of David LaChapelle’s photography, the meticulously composed mise-en-scène of Wes Anderson’s films, and the baroque gestures of Denis Sarazhin’s paintings, the artist adopts a strategy of “aesthetic excess,” paradoxically maximizing visual splendor in order to reveal the threats imposed upon the underwater ecosystem.
The work unfolds along a surreal process of “descent” into another hidden world beneath the calm surface of the canals. In the early part of the video, the world above the water is immersed in a tranquil illusion, while masked gondoliers continue their ritual navigation, staging the spectacle of tourism. Beneath the surface, however, an entirely different scene unfolds. As external raiders infiltrate deep into the lagoon to plunder hidden relics, hybrid marine creatures, sirens, and sea spirits gradually suffocate amid intrusion, pollution, and resource depletion. The acidic colors of neon green, pink, and blue contrast with their silent suffering, imbuing the entire scene with a decadent aesthetic—that is, a form of corrupted beauty.
In the final scene, the screen reveals a submerged graveyard. With only the bodies of dead sirens, skeletons, and ghostlike forms remaining, this space stands as a silent testimony to a devastated underwater ecosystem. In this way, Venice Underground becomes a sharp metaphor for a city being consumed by tourism and pollution, and a mirror that critically reflects the dystopian reality concealed behind Venice’s utopian façade.
