(Arvizu)
(Mexico)
Based in Mexico City, Arvizu is a visual artist exploring the possibilities of new digital aesthetics through the fusion of surrealist themes and generative AI. Having immersed himself in painting for 40 years, he focuses on delicately capturing the signals innate within symbols, the subtle energy existing beyond human perception, and the wondrous moments of sensation as “NOSTOC.” Currently, his painting practice expands into the digital realm through collaboration with AI, addressing themes such as posthuman, SF, and retrofuturism. His work is characterized by visual languages featuring vibrant color and atmospheric textures, alongside storytelling that infuses fundamental human emotions—such as ecstasy, joy, and curiosity—into surreal and speculative environments.
He studied at the Iberoamericana University in Mexico, earned a BBA from the University of Texas at Austin in USA, and furthered his studies at the Parsons School of Design in Paris. His major group exhibitions include the International Image Festival (Portugal, 2008); American Artists at Euroamérica Gallery in Barcelona (Spain, 1998); Hispanic Heritage in America at the Florida Museum of Latin American and Hispanic Art (USA, 1997); the 49th Frankfurt International Book Fair (Germany, 1997); Trends at the Museum of Contemporary Hispanic Art in New York (USA, 1986); and Reopening of the Statue of Liberty at Vorpal Gallery (USA, 1986). He has established a significant presence in Mexico through numerous solo and group exhibitions at Galería Oscar Román. His works are held in the collections of prestigious international institutions, including the Museum of Contemporary Art in Mexico, the Museum of Contemporary Hispanic Art in New York, and the Bancomer Cultural Foundation.
The Pale People – Micro Encounters, 2025
The Pale People – Micro Encounters is a series of short animations that explores subtle encounters occurring between the visible world and unseen dimensions. The work introduces the artist’s evolving mythological system centered on the “Pale People”—enigmatic presences that exist alongside human life yet largely remain unnoticed.
Each narrative unfolds within familiar settings such as city streets, quiet interiors, and everyday landscapes, drawing attention to invisible, micro-scale interventions produced by distinct entities. Gentle vibrations brushing through the morning air, the rhythm of light and breath, portals hidden within a simple view, or currents of wind moving across space all suggest that the reality we encounter is far more permeable than it appears. Within seemingly tranquil situations, small disturbances, gestures, atmospheric shifts, and playful interferences subtly disrupt human intentions. Yet, these moments of interruption evoke humor, tenderness, and a sense of curiosity.
In this way, by attending to such micro-phenomena, the work proposes a poetic possibility: that unseen agents and heterogeneous intelligences quietly coexist alongside us, dynamically influencing everyday life in ways that are barely perceived. Furthermore, it invites viewers to reconsider the spaces and environments they inhabit, as well as the sensations and energies that pass through their bodies, and to imaginatively envision alternative worlds beyond reality.
