페이준, <예측: 흥미로운 세계들>, 2021

2019년 베니스 비엔날레의 <흥미로운 세계들 설치 1>의 확장 프로젝트인 <예측: 흥미로운 세계들>은 영국의 자선 단체 ‘인비지블 더스트(Invisible Dust)’의 의뢰로 제작된 인터넷 참여형 예술 프로젝트이다.

이 프로젝트는 글로벌 현장 조사 도구로서, 전 세계 13명의 참여자들이 작가가 개발한 앱 RE-SEARCH를 통해 자신만의 “흥미로운” 미래 세계를 공동 창작하도록 초대하였다. 작품은 오늘날 세계에 대한 복합적이고 다양한 시각뿐만 아니라, 미래에 대한 비전들을 관찰하고 탐구할 수 있도록 한다.

전 세계의 13명의 공동 창작자는 러시아, 중국, 남극, 가나, 모잠비크, 핀란드, 미국, 캐나다, 호주, 뉴질랜드, 우루과이, 영국에 기반하고 있으며, 여기에 바다와 해양을 대표하는 특별한 항해 참여자가 함께한다. 참여자들은 작가가 제공한 180개 이상의 일상적 혹은 비일상적 사물 모델 가운데, 미래에 대한 자신의 사고에 가장 중요하거나 영향을 미친다고 생각되는 다섯 개의 사물을 선택하고 설명하도록 요청받았다. 이러한 선택들을 바탕으로, 페이 준은 각 참여자가 자신만의 비전을 표현할 수 있는 “흥미로운 세계들”을 구축하였다.

Fei Jun, Forecasting: Interesting Worlds, 2021

As an extended project of Interesting Worlds Installation 1 from the 2019 Venice Biennale, Forecasting: Interesting Worlds is an internet participatory art project commissioned by Invisible Dust, an English charitable organization.

As a global field research tool, this project invited 13 people from across the world to co-create their own “interesting” future worlds through the artist-developed app RE-SEARCH. This art project enables us to observe and explore the many complex and diverse views of the world as it is today, as well as visions of its future.

The 13 co-creators from around the world are based in Russia, China, Antarctica, Ghana, Mozambique, Finland, the USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Uruguay, and the UK—along with a special sea-voyaging participant representing our seas and oceans. From more than 180 models of everyday and non-everyday objects provided by the artist, the co-creators were asked to select and describe five objects that stood out as the most important or influential to their thinking about the future. With these selections, Fei Jun constructed “interesting worlds” for each co-creator to express his or her own vision.
