빠키, <몸을 통과하는 감각: Mind–Body Problem>, 2026

2016년 백남준아트센터의 《다중시간》 전시에 출품되었던 <Mind–Body Problem>에서 출발한 이 작업은, 몸을 통해 발생하는 감각과 인식이 기술적 구조 안에서 어떻게 재구성될 수 있는지를 탐구하는 시도였다. 당시 작품에서 인간의 신체는 단순히 기술을 설명하기 위한 수단이나 매체가 아니라, 감각과 인식의 구조를 드러내는 매개체로서 직접 퍼포먼스에 개입했다.

본 작품은 이러한 문제의식을 동시대 기술 환경 속에서 다시 물질화하고 확장한다. 과거 인간의 퍼포먼스를 통해 수행되었던 움직임은 이제 인공지능과 실제 로봇의 신체를 통해 구현된다. 이는 단순한 재현이나 반복이 아니라, 기존의 몸이 수행하던 감각과 리듬, 그리고 인식의 구조가 오늘날의 새로운 물질적 조건 위에서 어떻게 발생하고 변형되며 재조건화 되는지를 드러내는 과정이다.

작품의 제목이 암시하듯, 여기서 몸과 마음은 분리된 두 영역이 아니다. 의식은 몸 바깥의 추상적 차원에 존재하는 것이 아니라, 몸의 감각과 반응, 긴장과 이완, 리듬과 지각의 흐름 속에서 형성된다. 따라서 몸은 단순한 형태가 아니라 사고와 인식을 생성하는 조건이며, 마음은 그러한 상호작용 속에서 끊임없이 생성되고 순환하는 상태이다. 빠키는 이 작업을 통해 몸과 마음의 이분법을 넘어, 감각과 인식이 서로를 통과하며 유기적으로 순환하는 얽힘의 상태를 묘사한다.

Vakki, Sensation Through the Body: Mind–Body Problem, 2026

Originating from Mind–Body Problem, first presented in Wrap Around the Time at the Nam June Paik Art Center in 2016, this work explores how sensation and perception generated through the body can be refigured within technological structures. In earlier work, the human body did not function merely as a tool or medium for explaining technology; rather, it directly intervened in the performance as a mediator that rendered visible the structures of sensation and cognition.

This work re-materializes and expands those questions within the context of contemporary technological environments. Movements once performed through the human body are now embodied through artificial intelligence and robotic bodies. This is not simply a reproduction or repetition, but a process that reveals how the sensory rhythms and structures once enacted by the body emerge, transform, and become reconditioned through new material conditions today.

As the title suggests, body and mind here are not understood as separate domains. Consciousness does not exist as an abstract realm outside the body; rather, it emerges through the body’s sensations and reactions, through flows of tension and release, rhythm and perception. The body therefore functions not simply as a form, but as a condition that generates thought and cognition, while the mind is continuously produced and circulated through these interactions. Through this work, Vakki moves beyond the body–mind dualism, depicting a state of entanglement in which sensation and perception pass through one another and circulate organically.
