Auntlantis is an ongoing series that explores the intersection of mythology, environmental degradation, and surreal storytelling. Inspired by Plato’s Atlantis and the Great Pacific Garbage Patch, Auntlantis envisions a world overrun by plastic waste, where aunties navigate an ocean filled with discarded materials, hybrid creatures, and surreal landscapes of environmental collapse.

What started as an exploration of ocean waste—a theme influenced by niceaunties’ past architectural research on repurposing plastics for beach structures evolved into a world of its own, expanding across multiple video narratives. In Auntlantis, aunties take on the role of unlikely environmental warriors. Dressed in vibrant plastic outfits, they clean beaches, sweep the ocean floor, and interact with bizarre sea creatures, many of which have adapted by merging with plastic debris. The landscapes of Auntlantis are both fantastical and unsettling, reflecting the increasing reality of marine pollution and humanity’s role in it.

The creatures of Auntlantis are a visual metaphor for how deeply plastic has infiltrated nature, mutated beings that embody both the resilience of life and the irreversible effects of pollution. This world blends elements of hope, absurdity, and dystopia, capturing the paradox of human impact on the environment.
