Intentions
Busan Museum of Art - Lobby Project While a lobby connects the outside and inside of a building, it also has own characteristics as a separate space. Since it is the first thing you would enter when you visit a building, it generates the first impression of the architectural project as a whole. We have planned Lobby Project, in order to allow the visitors feel diversity and vitality at the lobby, which is supposed to be a space for experiencing the first impression of art in the art museum, Lobby Project is not a one-shot thing; it will be a consistent series of exhibitions, which will expose the viewers to various artistic genres. The first one of the exhibitional series has invited Ha JiHoon, a furniture designer that crosses boundaries between industry and art.

“Form follows function”- the phrase said by architect Louis Sullivan, which has become one of the most important ideas for modern design, implies that design is an activity about "How to form a shape in order to fit a certain function." Based on his own imagination, the artist turns a form, which had been shaped being subordinate to a given function, into an artwork with a new role. Vacuum-formed products which had been produced based on required functions, namely tire covers from a large truck and parts from industrial equipment, are reshaped and reincarnated into completely different things like a bench or a rocking chair. By suggesting "thinking out of a box,“the artist tries to show the viewers a new rationale for creative activities - function follows intention of the artist. Hopefully, this exhibition will let you experience the new aspects of furniture design.
